A little bit earlier this week as I'm off to watch my girlfriend complete the London Marathon this weekend! Exciting! (Go Guide Dogs!).
The water simulation has been such a pain this week! To render out that simulation, you first need to 'mesh' the result using Open VDB. This is easier said than done... I don't know how many times my computer has crashed this week! It's crazy! So this weekend whilst I'm away, I have created a solution: decimation! The water is mainly a flat plane most of the time so does not need to be high poly in those areas. Luckily for me, Houdini's polyReduce function has a setting just for that which dramatically reduces the amount of ram needed to process the Alembic export! So as I type this, I am just about to set the export off in the hopes that by the time I get back, it will have worked! Here hopes!
